Cybersolution Agenda 2 – Anti-Software Piracy
Software piracy is simply an unauthorized copying, reproduction, or illegal manufacture of software products or information technology copyrighted works. Counterfeit software often looks authentic and is sometimes distributed in packagings that imitates the original manufacturer’s packaging, but are fake.
ANTI-SOFTWARE CAMPAIGN AND COLLABORATIVE AWARENESS PROGRAMS 2008 WITH ALL STAKEHOLDERS AND RELEVANT GOVERNMENT INSTITUTIONS
- Anti-software piracy strategic campaign in African enterprises and organizations
- Anti-software piracy strategic campaign in SME, trade associations and individuals
- Anti-software piracy strategic campaign in partnership with relevant government agencies
- Genuine software indigenization initiative.
In any country there can never be any true national and secure IT development. Because an unchecked pirated software or illegal usage of software will discourage any meaningful indigenous software development.
Anti-piracy war and campaign is strongly similar to global war against drug traffickers because of gross multiplier negative effect on national and international economies. Nations loose enormous human and capital investments that are capable of crippling the entire computing world if not curtailed.
Unfortunately, in the developing nations of Africa, most software users are ignorantly responsible for their usage of pirated software and as such will be facing various legal consequences. The current anti-piracy law does not recognize or accept anybody’s ignorance in illegal buying or usage of illegal software for either personal or business use.
But how can we help these ignorant users from falling victims, while simultaneously stimulating indigenous development of genuine software by African and for African, and yet sustaining socio-economic value of appropriate usage of legally acquired software?
